Anchored Heart Shirts

The "Anchored Heart" tees are about to start shipping and I am giving away the original blue-pencil sketch used to create this design to one person who orders the shirt before Feb 28th. Each shirt ordered enters your name into a random drawing, so order three shirts and your name goes in three times. Consider giving these as gifts to increase your odds of winning. The shirts are printed on light heather grey cotton/polyester blend unisex tees and are just $15 until Feb 28. They will be $18 thereafter. These are very limited edition shirts with only 100 total being made, so sizes are limited to about 20 or so each. Don't delay, order today - www.bryancollins.bigcartel.com

Outside In at Art Whino

"Outside In"
Two Man Show Featuring
Aaron Jasinski & Bryan Collins
June 23rd 8-11pm

Outside vs Inside. We experience things quite differently depending on if we are observing them or a part of them. Viewing a challenge, such as attending college or approaching an attractive person, can seem like a big, intimidating thing. By the time you are in your 2nd or 3rd year of college or have become good friends with that good looking person, the previously daunting situation no longer feels so menacing.

Further, there are some who find solace in living as outsiders and prefer to rarely engage in socially inclusive circumstances. Punk rockers, anarchists, artists, musicians, scientists, mathematicians, bookworms, and video gamers are just a few examples of chosen lives and identities that comfort those who prefer the outsider lifestyle. This exhibit seeks to tell some of these stories in the whimsical fashion that Aaron Jasinski and Bryan Collins are known for.

Saturday, June 23rd, from 8-11pm
Location:
Art Whino Gallery
120 American Way
National Harbor, MD 20745

Reception begins at 8pm

Show end date: August 11th, 2012

The event is FREE and open to the public.

Daily Drawing 77

"Sailor" (daily drawing 77) - 5"x7" watercolor, acrylic, and ink on watercolor paper - Available at http://www.etsy.com/listing/94273824/sailor-original-5x7-mixed-media

On this piece I decided to play around with more shading than usual. Even though it's a "daily drawing" and intended to be completed in an hour or less, I've been wanting to learn how to achieve the same contrast and emotion in my quick drawings as I do in full paintings and illustrations taking days or even weeks.

As I train my hand and eye to spot the sections that need more working and develop a responsive instinct for this, I should be able to become more prolific when I get back to larger sized pieces of art.

This illustration is also another idea that I am considering for an upcoming painting to be shown at Art Whino in the near future. This subject is heavily inspired by the fact that I am moving back to Florida in less than two weeks and will reside next to the ocean. After 7 years in the land-locked mountains of Colorado, I am eager to smell the salty sea air again.

To see the selection of available daily drawings, please visit the Daily Drawing Section of my Etsy shop.

God bless,
Bryan

Daily Drawing 65

Daily Drawing 65 by BryanACollins
Daily Drawing 65, a photo by BryanACollins on Flickr.
Today I decided to tackle one of my weaker areas, which is portraits. I haven't done many of them and frankly I purposely avoid them. I've been feeling convicted about that lately because even as a "whimsical surrealist", I know there is room for me to learn from realism.

For my daily drawing, I pondered a moment over who I think has been an encouraging influence in my life and C.S. Lewis came to mind, so I took a crack at drawing him.

5"x7" watercolor, ink, and colored pencil on watercolor paper.

Daily Drawing 10

I hit double digits with this one. Daily drawing 10! I thought the painted area on my first daily drawing looked almost like a bandana on a skull, so I decided to do that intentionally. 5”x7” ball point pen, acrylic paint, and permanent marker on bristol. God bless,
Bryan

What I'm doing today

Yes, the title sounds so profound, but I just want to give a quick update of what's happening at the moment. If you are one who has subscribed to my Youtube Channel then you may have noticed I didn't do a video blog Monday or Tuesday. I am going to wait until Monday Jan 11th so I can finish up a few projects I'm working on.

Today I am hoping to finish a T-Shirt design I am creating for Ript. They are an online company that releases T-shirts for just 24 hours on each design. This makes the shirts exclusive and extremely limited edition. Please make sure you are following me on TWITTER, or at least signed up on my mailing list (top right of this blog) so that you will be notified when the shirt is available.

I am also working on a couple different skateboard designs with a few different deck companies. These boards will be available for purchase in limited runs so even if you don't skate, you can hang one on the wall as a unique way to own a limited edition print. There are out-of-print skateboards from the '90s I've seen selling for over a grand that were only $50 at the time they were in stores. That's better than the stock market.

I'm setting up an exhibit in Los Angeles with a gallery I have not show with before. Plus, in video blog 5 I will announce a huge event taking place in October, so make sure you are subscribed!

There are a few new things in my Etsy shop, so I will leave you with that.

God bless,
Bryan
