Jekyll Island Comic Con 2018

This weekend is the Jekyll Comic Con and Hyde Horror Alley on the beautiful Jekyll Island in southeastern Georgia. I've been exhibiting art at this convention for a few years now and this year is ramping up to be the best so far. The guest list is exciting, the program of events is loaded with fun, and the island and convention center are decorated for Christmas.

I'll have more art, prints, and apparel than I've ever brought to Georgia but quantities are limited on everything. If you want the best selection, find me early near the front entrance at booth 132. I'll be right across from my friend Jason Selezinka at drexNINE Studios and just beside another friend, Aly MacDonald at Mud and Thread.

National Tattoo Convention in Orlando Florida

This weekend I will have the pleasure of showing art with people who are covered in it. The National Tattoo Association is having it's 39th annual convention in Orlando, FL. Collective Con 2018

Jacksonville is getting ready for its premier comic book, video game, anime, pop culture convention with Collective Con 2018. I've had the pleasure of being part of this show since the very beginning and it's been amazing watching this show grow. Like every large and complicated event, Collective Con has gone over a few speed bumps but this resilient group of organizers, promoters, and volunteers have shown the ability to adapt and overcome. 2018 looks like it will be the biggest year yet with record pre-show ticket sales causing a late venue change from the Morocco Shrine (2017 location) back to the Jacksonville Fairgrounds indoor exhibition hall (2015-2016 location) just a couple of weeks before the show.

The guest list for this year includes names like Brandon Routh, Johnny Yong Bosch, Kyle Hebert, Esme Bianco, Clifton Collins Jr, Chester Rushing, Cherami Leigh, and many more. What Our Eyes Heard

I have long wanted to create a small body of work inspired directly by song lyrics. The wait is now over. Beginning June 26th, 2014 I will be sharing the walls of Screaming Sky Gallery with Kalina Torino to exhibit works based on music. I've created eight new pieces for this show ranging in size from 5"x7" to 9"x12" and each piece is colored pencil and acrylic on wood. Below is a video of the first piece being created. Outside vs Inside. We experience things quite differently depending on if we are observing them or a part of them. Viewing a challenge, such as attending college or approaching an attractive person, can seem like a big, intimidating thing. By the time you are in your 2nd or 3rd year of college or have become good friends with that good looking person, the previously daunting situation no longer feels so menacing.

Further, there are some who find solace in living as outsiders and prefer to rarely engage in socially inclusive circumstances. Punk rockers, anarchists, artists, musicians, scientists, mathematicians, bookworms, and video gamers are just a few examples of chosen lives and identities that comfort those who prefer the outsider lifestyle. This exhibit seeks to tell some of these stories in the whimsical fashion that Aaron Jasinski and Bryan Collins are known for.

2011 Albuquerque Comic Expo Summary

The first Albuquerque Comic Expo is now in the history books and in my own humble opinion, it was a great success. The residents of New Mexico really came out and supported the event, the celebrities, and the artists. I was very blessed to be a part of this inaugural event and I am grateful for all of the really cool people I met at the Expo. Albuquerque was awesome!


I was very thankful for the First Aid station since I was apparently under attack after setting up my table.


The Albuquerque Comic Expo was my first comic book event and I was impressed with the time and effort that went into the variety of costumes. I could hardly focus on drawing because it was so entertaining to just look around.


R2-D2 even took time out from his busy day to stroll through Artist's Alley.


The photo opportunities were endless.


My daughter in her Supergirl costume. She got a little pink Hello Kitty at the expo and is still excited about it.


My son didn't like Daddy being behind the table all day. He had on a Batman costume when he got to the expo, but it can be hard to keep a costume on a 2-year-old.

Alejandro Garza was one of my table neighbors. He's a quiet guy but his drawing skills are fantastic.


After initially getting stuck with a "volunteer" badge, Jeff Herndon was upgraded to "Celebrity Guest"; A title much more fitting. Jeff Herndon and Jamie King were the ones who told me about the Albuquerque Comic Expo and if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have gone. I owe them a great deal of thanks for urging me to attend.


Two people I met at the expo who were exceptionally cool and I now consider friends were Grego and Kaylah from Bean Pot Toiz. Grego sent me home with a few DIY blank platforms which I will be customizing and sending back to him for a show in Dallas, TX in September. Between meeting new people and taking in the scenery, I got some painting done. I will share those pieces in another post. (Thanks to Jamie King for taking this photo).

Here's the concept drawing I created for the piece I am sending to the show. He's called "A Few Loose Screws". I am literally applying a few loose screws to his head. And, since the show is called "Into The Darkness", I decided to write down all the things that scare me, cut them into little slips of paper, and insert them into the toys head. They are incredibly difficult to get back out without damaging the finished toy, so I am hoping they will stay in there forever.

Two shows this Saturday

Saturday, December 13th 2009, there are two art shows you should know about. Pink Ghost, in Ft Lauderdale Florida, is having their two-year birthday party. They are doing food, live music, and a four-person art exhibit. Check out the flyer below.




Also, The Gallery Underground, in conjunction with Handmade Militia, is holding a holiday art and craft show. I will be in attendance from 11am-7pm and exhibiting originals, prints, and other neat stuff. Gallery Underground is located in Old Town Square, downtown Ft Collins Colorado, at 109 Linden Street. We are next to the big white sculpture near Bea Jo's pizza, down the stairs 'underground'. See you there!

Art Whino Exhibit

I have just been inducted into the permanent collection of artists at the Art Whino gallery in Alexandria, VA. The reception will take place on February 22nd, 2008. The show will feature the art of JoKa, and 12 other artists will be inducted with me. I will not be able to attend the show personally, but I will have five paintings there in my place :)
