As some of you know, I am obsessed with color. It hasn't always been this way, though. When I first started to get "serious" about art and spending hours on end drawing in my room with Metallica cassette tapes blaring in my ears, my number one tool was ink. Coffee Girl in Progress

Although I closed my series of "Coffee Girls", I did agree to accept a commission for one. It will be an 8"x10" colored pencil piece. Here is the initial idea sketched out in blue drawing pencil.

I went to my local Hobby Lobby to get some illustration board for this piece. It was my first time in the Saint Augustine store. The family is still getting settled in to our new place and finding our way around. When I lived in Gainesville, FL I made frequent trips to St Augustine, but usually just hung around St. George Street and then over to Villano Beach. Now that I live here I will need to figure out where to purchase all of my art supplies. I must admit, I will always have a very large place in my heart for Colorado, but it sure is nice to cruise over to the beach whenever I want. It's only about 15 minutes away.

Daily Drawing 80

I don't really watch much TV, but there are a few shows that I do enjoy listening to while I draw. One is "Lockup RAW", the MSNBC show about life in prison. Friday night I watched one where an inmate had practically filled his cell with various origami creations. The contrast of something so peaceful in a tumultuous place as prison really interested me. The poignancy inspired this daily drawing.

Daily Drawing 30

I am really enjoying working on these watercolored papers. Making the watercolor backgrounds is fun and a different kind of expressiveness than I am used to employing in my work. I feel I am learning a great deal from these mixed media techniques.

Daily Drawing 1

I have been debating whether or not to start the daily drawing challenge of creating one illustration each day. I tried it a while back and didn't last a week. I made up excuses about why I couldn't do it, but they were all excuses. Now I am committing to the challenge and have a few artist friends who are doing it with me to keep each other accountable to the commitment. Here is my first daily drawing. It is ball point pen, acrylic paint, and Sharpie marker on 5"x7" bristol.
