Back to Drawing

Just less than two weeks ago I sliced my right thumb to the bone while shoving a trash bag into the can. I have not been able to use my right hand for much, let alone any drawing. This weekend I pushed through the numbness, tingling, and remnants of shooting pains and made this drawing. I've never seriously worked on mid-tone paper, so I thought that picking some up would give me the motivation to work with a wonky thumb. It took about three times as long to complete, but I did it. The drawing measures 5"x8" and is available. Message me for pricing.

Coffee Girl in Progress

Although I closed my series of "Coffee Girls", I did agree to accept a commission for one. It will be an 8"x10" colored pencil piece. Here is the initial idea sketched out in blue drawing pencil.

I went to my local Hobby Lobby to get some illustration board for this piece. It was my first time in the Saint Augustine store. The family is still getting settled in to our new place and finding our way around. When I lived in Gainesville, FL I made frequent trips to St Augustine, but usually just hung around St. George Street and then over to Villano Beach. Now that I live here I will need to figure out where to purchase all of my art supplies. I must admit, I will always have a very large place in my heart for Colorado, but it sure is nice to cruise over to the beach whenever I want. It's only about 15 minutes away.

I will post more pics of this Coffee Girl in progress as I move along with it. Coffee Girl merch and prints are available at www.bryancollins.etsy.com
God bless,
Bryan

Daily Drawing 31

Today as I was rummaging through my studio for a piece of bristol or watercolor paper to do today's daily drawing on, I realized I had run out and started scavenging for a substrate. I came across some pieces of wood I had actually set aside since they had knots in them. I didn't think I would use them for anything, but I had sanded them just in case. Here's the case. The drawing was done in ball point pen and colored pencil. The finished piece will be varnished tomorrow.

New Drawings

One of my favorite things about exhibiting at Comic Book Conventions is being able to draw live for people who are curious about the process of making art. While showing work at the Long Beach Comic Con (Oct 29-30, 2011) I came up with these two ACEO drawings which were small enough to complete while people were watching. Both drawings are now available in my Etsy Shop. You can click on either to go directly to the listing. They are just $19 each and would make great Christmas gifts :)

Mystery Drawing 007

"Mystery Drawing 007"
Graphite on 5"x7" drawing paper

This is the seventh piece from my series of Mystery Drawings. These are 5"x7" graphite pencil drawings that I create spontaneously when one is ordered. I spend about 2-3 hours on each one. Some of the ideas or images from Mystery Drawings could end up becoming paintings in the future. I'd also like to set up my video camera and make a time-lapse video of some of them being made. Keep ordering them and I will be able to make that happen.

When I Feel I'm Gone

This is the ORIGINAL acrylic painting, "When I Feel I'm Gone", created for my 'Proof of Faith' exhibit at Art Whino in Washington DC. For me, this piece is about internal struggles with loneliness in a society filled with 'dead-minded TV heads' who live in a robotic fashion. The girl in the stained white dress just wishes someone could connect with her soul, yet she is failed again and again. The bold colors hint that there is hope in her situation, and that no matter what predicament she is in, tomorrow may bring healing.

The painting is 12"x12" acrylic on canvas and is framed as seen in the photos. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding this painting. I am always glad to discuss the work with anyone.

Tiger Dunny

I know I haven't been blogging very regularly, but it's because I've been super busy painting Beast Buddies, drawing Coffee Girls, and getting ready for Nov 6th's First Friday at The Gallery Underground.

I recently got to make this custom Tiger Dunny for a collector. I also have a commissioned Boston Terrier Dunny and frog Dunny coming up soon.

Here is one of my recent Coffee Girls. She measures 5"x7" colored pencil on illustration board, and she's sold. There are just THREE Coffee Girls left before they will never be made again. The series is closing so message me if you want one of the last three.

$1 ORIGINAL drawing auction

A new $1 original drawing auction is now in progress at my Myspace blog. The first bidder could win for just a dollar! That's like trading me a nasty McDonald's grease burger for an original work of art.

What's at stake here is the original line drawing used to create the limited edition Coffee Girls shirts currently available at www.bryandrinkscoffee.com in the SHOP.

Go to www.myspace.com/godstattooguy and click the "$1 ORIGINAL drawing" blog for all the details. Have fun!

Fiona February

The first of the last 12 Coffee Girls is complete and in the hands of her new owner. To recap what I am doing: I have decided it is time to bring the Coffee Girls series to a close. I will be making one new Coffee Girl each month for the rest of the year, with the last piece being completed in January 2010. Each is 5"x7" and like always, Prismacolor pencil on illustration board. Then, a final colossal Coffee Girl will be created in an 18"x24" to say goodbye to the collection of more than two dozen pieces. By closing the series I will help perpetuate a rise in value for those loyal collectors who have been purchasing these pieces. If you want one of the last 8 available pieces, or the final colossus piece, please message me at art@bryandrinkscoffee.com to make your reservation.
