More Custom Toys 2013

Summer is pretty much coming to an end and it's been a great season of comic conventions, gallery shows, and fun commissioned pieces. Here is a round-up of some of the customs I've done in the past couple of months.

Wall-E custom Android. Resin and acrylic on vinyl. This was a commission, so it's sold.

Incredible Hulk custom Dunny. Acrylic on vinyl. This one is available in my Etsy Shop.

Red Monster custom Android. Acrylic on vinyl. This too was a commission, so it's also sold.

Beauty and the Beast custom Dunny pair. Resin and acrylic on vinyl. These are available individually blind-boxed HERE.

Octobox custom Dunny. Acrylic on vinyl and available in my Etsy Shop.

Cowboy Penguin custom Dunny. Resin and acrylic on vinyl. Another commissioned piece who already has a home.

I have more custom figures in progress as well as a number of illustrations and paintings, so I will get back to working on those and post them up as they are completed. God bless you, and enjoy the remainder of summer!

Limiting Customs Until October

Summer is upon us and I'm sure you have a few things planned whether it's completing some projects around your home, traveling somewhere special, or just getting in some time to relax. I have some ambitions, conventions, and commitments I will be attacking this summer so in order to make it all happen I am limiting the number of commissioned figures I will accept between now and October 1st.

I have added the last remaining quantities and platforms in the Custom Figures Section of my Etsy Shop so you can order quickly and easily and receive notifications when your completed piece has shipped. If you do not grab one of these before October, you will most likely not see your completed custom until 2014.

This limitation only applies to custom figures. Drawings and paintings are a case-by-case basis. If you have any questions, comment below. Don't forget to follow on Instagram and Twitter for in-progress posts and spontaneous shenanigans. Go get yourself a custom figure!

GI Joe Show

GI JOE TRIBUTE SHOW MAY 31 IN NEW JERSEY

SubUrban Toys and Tenacious Toys are teaming up to present a custom toy show based on the recently released GI Joe mini figure platform by The Loyal Subjects.

There will also be exclusive GI Joe t-shirts by The Loyal Subjects, stickers, grilling outside the shop, appearances by Les Schettkoe (creator of the TLS GI Joe figures), Jonathan Cathey (head of TLS), several Hasbro employees and many of the local artists from the roster. Passive Aggressive Munny

Good vs. Evil has been the conundrum debated among theologians, philosophers, and laymen alike since the beginning of mankind. I was commissioned to create a custom mini-Munny based on this theme, and produced this creature I am calling "Passive Aggressive". You may notice that there is some minor sculpt work on this one. I've only sculpted on three custom figures up till now, but I am beginning to slowly integrate more 3D elements into my customs. If you are interested in commissioning a unique figure, contact me HERE.

Foomi Sea Monster

This Sea Monster is the first Kidrobot Foomi I've had the pleasure of customizing. I was given the request of creating a multi-eyed sea creature on the Foomi figure. He stands a little over four inches tall and was painted with acrylics. If you are interested in having me customize a figure for you, please email me at bryancollinsart@gmail.com or see the easy-order customs in my Etsy Shop.

Custom Raffy Available

"Sparkle Stripe" is the first piece I've created on the Kidrobot Raffy platform. It was made for a custom toy exhibit at the Jarvis Rockwell Gallery in North Adams, MA. Part baby giraffe, part psychedelic pony, this whimsical beast is painted with metallic and pearl acrylics and measures approximately 4.5"x5".

This piece is now available in my Etsy shop.

Steampunk Sheriff Dunny

For this commission I was asked to create anything I wanted as long at it was on the Chuckboy Cyborg Dunny platform. I had only worked on this platform once before when I made the seafaring Scuba Dunny. A month ago I beat the PS3 game Rage and have since been wanting to do a steampunk themed custom. When I was striping and priming the Chuckboy cyborg it hit me that this was the perfect platform to take in a steampunk direction. I had a blast creating this little sci-fi western sheriff and hope to do more in this theme soon.

You can order custom Dunny figures at www.bryancollins.etsy.com or email me to discuss something specific - info[at]bryancollinsgallery.com

Custom Android Figures

Custom Android Figures by BryanACollins
Custom Android Figures, a photo by BryanACollins on Flickr.
This is a pair of custom Android figures I painted for a client. I was given a very open theme, and only asked that one be red and one green. I figured that I should focus on the colors themselves, and make a pair of bots that really compliment each other.

The set was painted with acrylic paint on DIY vinyl Android figures.

Custom Kathie Olivas Scavenger

This is the custom Kathie Olivas Scavenger I recently had the pleasure of creating for a client. The client sent me a blank red Scavenger and said he likes the color green and anything with tentacles but other than that I could do what I wanted. Here's what I did.

Acrylic on 3.5" tall vinyl Scavenger.

Kidrobot Sketch Session at Urban Outfitters

On April 14th I was granted the pleasure of being Kidrobot's featured artist for a one-night sketch session at Urban Outfitters. I got to meet some great collectors, fans, Kidrobot staff, and Urban Outfitters employees. In about 2.5 hours I doodled on more than 30 Munnyworld figures and had an awesome time.

Thank you to everyone who let me doodle a Munny for you, and special thanks to Kidrobot and Urban Outfitters for hosting this event. I hope to do it again soon!

Aquatic Chuckboy Dunny

There's nothing that warms my heart like when someone receives a piece of work from me and then asks for another. That was the case with this custom Chuckboy Dunny. The collector who commissioned it had previously received his Ocean-Life set of customs. He liked the eye on the octopus Dunny and let me run with that. The above photos show what I came up with after letting my mind journey to the deep for a bit. Hope you like it.

Beast Buddies Mini Munny

My series of 100 custom Dunnys called Beast Buddies was a surprising success, and randomly packed into the 100 blind-boxes were 16 golden tickets. One of those tickets awarded it's collector with a free custom monster Mini Munny. The ticket was found and the custom Munny you see above was the prize.

My goal with this piece was to give a generally encompassing idea of what the Beast Buddies series was all about. Trying to create one piece that represents 100 pieces was a challenge and essentially impossible, so I focused on creating a multi-eyed monster that would fit in well with the concept that spread throughout the diverse span of customs that were all created as Beast Buddies.

Like all of the Beast Buddies, this pieces was painted with acrylics on vinyl. If you would like to inquire about having a piece commissioned for your collection, please email bryan@bacstudio.com to begin discussing your ideas.

Comments welcomed!

Toy2R Mini Qee Release

The good folks at Toy2R are getting ready to release a new DIY vinyl toy that is a mini version of their staple Qees. Tenacious Toys was in charge of putting together an artist line-up to have some of these pieces fully customized before the release. I was added to that roster, and created the piece you see in the teaser photo below. If you want to see the whole thing, along with about 20 other great custom mini Qees, head over to Yoyamart (New York, NY) on Valentines Day and fall in love with Toy2R's new release!

SeaClops Marshall Official Reveal

The Tenacious Toys Custom Marshall Blind Box series has officially been released, and the chase figure I posted as a teaser HERE has been collected so I am revealing for the first time the full design. This piece is about 4" tall and painted with acrylics on a vinyl Marshall (64Colors) production piece.

I was inspired to go with a deep sea theme, with some outer-space elements in it as well. These are things I have been exploring with a few recent and upcoming pieces of work. As a former aspiring marine-biologist-to-be, I still have a strong connection to the mysteries of the sea, and love weaving that element into my art.

I want to extend a sincere 'thank you' to Benny at Tenacious Toys for inviting me to be a part of this series, and to 64 Colors for creating a great base to paint on. I also want to thank all the other artists in the series for bringing it all together - NEMO, ZAM, Mr. Den, Leecifer, OsirisOrion, Steve Talkowski, Ian Ziobrowski, LYSOL, Rolo, Phetus, Brent Nolasco, and Spanky Stokes.

The next customs (other than Beast Buddies) that I will reveal will be the NYCC exclusives I am finishing up, also for Tenacious Toys. These pieces will be available at their booth during the 2010 NYCC event October 8-10 at the Javits Center in New York City.

Feel free to post your thoughts in the comments section below.

Beast Buddies 62 to 73

Above - Starrla, Zimbo, Yuck Yuck, Lemonade

As a few unfinished paintings and drawings lie about the studio, I'm cranking out the last 1/4 of the Beast Buddies series. I've almost reached that magic 100 mark and realized at number 43 that 100 was awfully ambitious. I can say now with a fair amount of confidence that my future custom sets will be much, much smaller in number. Maybe a dozen or so. Furthermore, it may be a while before I release another blind box series since I have tons of 2D pieces swimming around my brain that I really need to get out. That being said, there are still right at 20 Beast Buddies left that can be yours and in that 20 there are four golden tickets. The ticket for the FREE custom monster mini-Munny has not yet been claimed. If you want to own one of the Beast Buddies before the series is sold out, head over to my Etsy Shop.

Above - Creamsicle, Rock Fungus, Sadly, Split Decision

In addition to the Beast Buddies I am working on a few customs for NYCC 2010. The pieces will be offered up by Tenacious Toys at booth #2878 and are being created exclusively for NYCC. They will not be revealed anywhere prior.

A new T-shirt design is in the works and will hopefully be available within the next month or two. I have just 2 smalls and 5 XLs of Living Through Empty if you are interested in them. All sizes are still available in the Coffee Girl shirts, but they are very limited.

Above - Triclops, Booger, Cheese, Three

I really hope to put aside some time soon to do a new video blog. I received a lot of great feedback from the ones up now. Plus, I'm all set up with a digital video camera now so I won't have to shoot them with my webcam. If you want to check out the previous vlog episodes, they are on my YouTube Channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/artbybryancollins.

I really enjoy your comments, so please feel free to post below.

Custom Dumpling of Doom

I just began customizing a Giver, designed by Andrew Bell, which I plan to unveil at NYCC 2010. Included with the Giver was this accessory piece called the Soup Dumpling of Doom. Since I have no plan to include him with the Giver I am working on, I thought he would make a great stand-alone custom piece. The dumpling itself is limited to just 300 pieces, making this custom not only a one-of-a-kind, but also makes your probability of finding many other custom dumplings very low.

This 'Dumpling from Space' has been painted with acrylics, measures approximately 2"x2" when looking at it from the top, and stands about 1.25" tall. He is available for purchase at www.bryancollins.bigcartel.com for just $39.00 plus shipping.

Limited Edition Peet

I am very excited to announce the release of my first production toy! The great folks at Strangekiss allowed me the pleasure of putting my design on the Peet figure, created by David Lanham. These limited edition figures will be released sometime in the next couple of months, with samples being unveiled at this year's San Diego Comic Convention. There will probably be a set of artist proofs which will be signed and numbered so make sure you are on my mailing list to be the first to know of these, and of the production release.

Stay up with Strangekiss at www.strangekiss.com
