2013 Scarecrow Dunnys Now Available

Whether living in my home state of Florida or the absolutely gorgeous state of Colorado (which I miss tremendously), fall will always be a magical season for me. It's only natural then, that my first seasonally themed custom pieces are autumn scarecrows. I've made four of these little guys by sculpting with Magic-Sculp on vinyl Dunny figures and mounting them to wood bases which I painted like fall leaves. They measure just under 4" tall and are being shipped out "blind boxed" so one of the four has a golden ticket with him which gets you a prize pack valued at over $50. You can get all the details at www.bryancollins.etsy.com

Happy Fall!

More Custom Toys 2013

Summer is pretty much coming to an end and it's been a great season of comic conventions, gallery shows, and fun commissioned pieces. Here is a round-up of some of the customs I've done in the past couple of months.

Wall-E custom Android. Resin and acrylic on vinyl. This was a commission, so it's sold.

Incredible Hulk custom Dunny. Acrylic on vinyl. This one is available in my Etsy Shop.

Red Monster custom Android. Acrylic on vinyl. This too was a commission, so it's also sold.

Beauty and the Beast custom Dunny pair. Resin and acrylic on vinyl. These are available individually blind-boxed HERE.

Octobox custom Dunny. Acrylic on vinyl and available in my Etsy Shop.

Cowboy Penguin custom Dunny. Resin and acrylic on vinyl. Another commissioned piece who already has a home.

I have more custom figures in progress as well as a number of illustrations and paintings, so I will get back to working on those and post them up as they are completed. God bless you, and enjoy the remainder of summer!

GI Joe Show

GI JOE TRIBUTE SHOW MAY 31 IN NEW JERSEY

SubUrban Toys and Tenacious Toys are teaming up to present a custom toy show based on the recently released GI Joe mini figure platform by The Loyal Subjects.

These figures are licensed by Hasbro, who have been working with us to offer up a few artists of their own to add to the show, plus lending SubUrban Vinyl a costume or 2 from the GI Joe movie!

There will be 30+ artists contributing about 100 customized GI Joe figures to the show. Additionally, several artists are creating original paintings and prints for the show. There will also be exclusive GI Joe t-shirts by The Loyal Subjects, stickers, grilling outside the shop, appearances by Les Schettkoe (creator of the TLS GI Joe figures), Jonathan Cathey (head of TLS), several Hasbro employees and many of the local artists from the roster. It's going to be an absolute blast- a fitting tribute to the most influential toy line of our generation. Come party with us!

Pink Elephant Custom Munny

Well, the sculpting bug has bitten me. I've managed to customize a couple hundred art toys in the past three years without ever picking up an ounce of sculpting material, but after receiving a commission for a Scorpion Dunny which required a sculpted tail, I had the thought in my mind to do more 3D, but never really took the leap. So far this year though, I have sculpted on a few customs, including this Pink Elephant 4" mini-Munny.

I will be sculpting more for sure, but not always. I still think there are times when the natural shape of the figure should be allowed to shine through and the paintwork should merely enhance the platform as it is. So, I am grateful now to have this new element of customizing in my grasp so that I am able to take each new piece in the direction that needs to go without limitation.

These are my first custom KR Bots and are painted with acrylics. The series is comprised of "team old" from the first KR Mascot series (Good vs Evil), and "team new" who are joining in for this second series of customs. Bots are blind-boxed when you order, but you may choose if you want a pull from team old or team new. If you want a shot at one of the three above, grab from team new. All the possibilities of custom bots are sampled at http://www.battleofthemascots.bigcartel.com/

Foomi Sea Monster

This Sea Monster is the first Kidrobot Foomi I've had the pleasure of customizing. I was given the request of creating a multi-eyed sea creature on the Foomi figure. He stands a little over four inches tall and was painted with acrylics. If you are interested in having me customize a figure for you, please email me at bryancollinsart@gmail.com or see the easy-order customs in my Etsy Shop.

God bless,

No More Custom Toys (sort of)

I've been thinking for a long time about all of the comments, questions, and suggestions I regularly receive from fellow artists, fans, and gallery curators. After chewing on a great deal of information I began to feel that I needed to abandon either my fine art or my toy art. Although they are both forms of art, the genres carry different vibes and often attract the adoration of different people. I know that a great number of people who like my custom toys really aren't much into my paintings and illustrations. On the other side, most of the collectors whom I've worked with for years just don't connect with the custom toy realm.

(Toy Art) "Qee to the Moon" :: acrylic on 4" tall Mini Qee

(Fine Art) "Play Some Purple For Me" :: 16"x20" acrylic on linen

After putting both the fine art and toy customizing worlds on the chopping block, I felt a little like Abraham with the knife hovering in my hands over Issac, hating what I felt I had to do but willing to do it anyway. Then, like the angel that provided Abraham with another sacrifice, I had a vision of one river that flows to a fork where it parts ways with itself. The one river then has two different names but both are fed from the same source. This gave me the notion that it is time to divide my arts, rather than kill one.

Now you will have a choice to follow what I am doing with paintings and illustrations or with custom toys, or both. Those of you who only want to see my 2D and fine art work may continue to follow me here and you will no longer see posts regarding my custom toys. Those of you wishing to follow my toy customizing adventures will need to jump over to www.facebook.com/colorchemist3d where I am now working under the name Color Chemist. You may also want to follow on Twitter at @ColorChemist3D where I will be posting links to news, shows, and custom toy photos.

Thank you all, both friends of my 2D and 3D art, for the encouragement and support. I love both realms of work and I am excited to continue each by traveling both rivers!

God bless,
Bryan A. Collins (a.k.a. Color Chemist)
