In all honesty, being an introvert is almost required to be an artist or author. We need our quiet time to get work done. Being a full time, work from home artist and author means that I rarely leave the house on any given day. It's just on Saturdays that I venture out, usually to the Riverside Arts Market in Jacksonville, to bring art and books to the people of North Florida and South Georgia.
That being said, my favorite thing to do when I get out of the house is find some sort of outdoor adventure. This past Labor Day Weekend, my family and I celebrated my wife's birthday by taking a short trip down the Sante Fe River. We launched at the Canoe Outpost and explored the stretch from there to Poe Springs. We spotted a few deer, tons of turtles, a vigorous gar, and an alligator which was about eight feet long.
Days like these are good for the mind, body, and soul. I find myself not wanting to get back to the grind, but conversely, having the inspiration and energy to do so. The wildlife inspires art and the scenery inspires story—not to mention the life long memories I'm building with my children.
Thank you for letting me share this out-of-studio experience with you. What are your favorite outdoor getaways? Where do you like to adventure?
Bryan
